Pump it up
These tools make it easier to keep your heart healthy in the years ahead.
Your health plan includes tools and resources designed to support your heart — and you might be surprised by how many are already included.
Fortunately, you have access to services that make it easier to care for your heart. Here are a few you may want to take advantage of:
Get screened for cardiovascular disease
Your plan covers cardiovascular disease screening blood tests once every five years at no cost. Talk to your primary care provider about whether you are considered at risk and should get these tests.
Don’t skip the eye doctor
Your eyes and gums can reveal a lot about your heart. Eye doctors can sometimes spot signs of high blood pressure before you notice symptoms. Your plan includes vision, dental, and hearing benefits, with $0 copays for many preventive services.
Get moving
Staying active is one of the best things you can do for your heart. With the One Pass® fitness benefit,1 you get no-cost access to gyms nationwide, boutique studios, and virtual classes you can do at home. Get started today at youronepass.com.
Schedule a heart check-in
Your plan covers one no-cost cardiovascular disease risk reduction visit each year with your PCP to help reduce your risk for heart disease. Your doctor may check your blood pressure, talk about aspirin use (if appropriate), and offer tips on eating well.
Dr. Ramos says: Check your member site or call the number on your ID card to explore resources like blood pressure checks, nutrition counseling, dental cleanings, and vision exams — all steps to a healthier heart.
See a cardiologist
If you need a specialist, you don’t need a referral. Use the Find a Provider tool at ibxmedicare.com/providerfinder to find an in-network cardiologist.
Create at-home-based blood pressure check reminders
Stay on top of your blood pressure by using an automatic cuff that goes on your arm. Use your quarterly OTC allowance to purchase one.
Check your blood pressure once a week if it’s controlled, or two to three times a week (or as recommended by your doctor) if you have high blood pressure or diabetes, or are at risk for hypertension.
High blood pressure and cholesterol don’t always cause symptoms, so regular checkups can help catch problems early. Keep track of your readings and share them with your doctors.
